Installing SDL Libraries

The following steps describe how to install SDL libraries. The command apt-cache search sdl > sdl.txt followed by nano sdl.txt gives you the opportunity to see potentially useful files. Type the following commands at the prompt according to your requirements and accept invitations to continue.

  1. sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
  2. sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2-dev
  3. sudo apt-get install libsmpeg-dev
  4. sudo apt-get install libsdl-gfx1.2-dev
  5. sudo apt-get install libsdl-ttf2.0-dev
  6. sudo apt-get install libsdl-sound1.2-dev
  7. sudo apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2-dev
  8. sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev
We tested Jason McMillen's Artillery and the student programs My_first_sdl and A_star and were delighted to see them running acceptably well. Invader runs too slowly to be playable on a Debian Wheezy Hard Float OS but well enough for you to gain an impression of the game.
